As the child of a graphic designer and a human resources specialist, it came as no surprise that I was drawn to both the arts and social sciences, respectively. My artistic abilities and interest in design paired naturally with an innate fascination about the way that people think and behave, propelling much of my professional career to date.
Growing up I spent countless hours along side my dad at his drafting table, drawing super heroes as he worked on freelance gigs. I would draw all day and night if you let me. Even so, being the responsible parents they were, my mom and dad employed the usual "lights out" policy at bedtime. Try as they might, that didn’t stop me. It wasn’t long before they found me huddled up to my night light with a pencil and paper. They eventually gave up.
When I was older I spent my summers playing with my grandparents Apple II, and taking apart every gadget in the house. Fortunately, I could usually figure out how to put everything back together. Unfortunately for my family, the VCR was one exception.
Despite my artistic abilities and affinity for technology, I found myself drawn most to people. For a time I considered studying psychology, hoping to leverage my curiousity to help others. However, it wasn't until I discovered the field of experience design that I found a true intersection of my skills, interests, and aspirations. It’s this mix of creativity, curiosity, and empathy that suits me as a designer.
These days I work at M&T Bank
, supporting enterprise transformation through scaling of internal design capabilities. When I'm not working, I spend my time drawing with
my kids, watching movies (without a VCR), and studying psychology. I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Harvard Extension School, where I seek to further leverage my inherent drive to understand others in order to find new and effective ways to improve the lives of individuals, the groups they’re in, and the systems in which they operate.
